Ada, a Germanic name meaning "noble," was originally a nickname for names like Adelaide or Adelina, but many parents today (including country singer Thomas Rhett, singer-songwriter James Bay and model Ashley James) have promoted it to a given name. It was a top 100 name between 1900 and 1912 before falling off the Social Security Administration's top 1,000 baby names list in the late-1980s. Now it's back and approaching the top 100 again.
