Clara, the feminine form of Clarus, is derived from the Late Latin word clarus, meaning "bright," "clear" or "famous." It was a top-100 girl's name in the United States every year between 1900 and 1936 before slowly fading outside of the top-500. It returned to the top-200 in 2009 and has cracked the top-100 five times since then. Broadway star Jeremy Jordan and his wife, Ashley Spencer, welcomed a daughter named Clara Eloise in 2019, while "My Girl" star Anna Chlumsky shares a daughter, Clara Elizabeth, with her husband, Shaun. Other variations include Claire, Clare, Clair, Clarice, Klara, Clarissa and Sinclair.
