Emiliano, the Spanish and Italian version of the Roman name Aemilianus, is derived from the Latin word aemulus, meaning "rival." It first appeared in the Social Security Administration's top 1,000 for boy names in 1997 and entered the top-200 in 2018 before cracking the top-100 for the first time in 2023. It's more common than Emilio, but not by much, and its rise in popularity could be attributed to Argentine golfer Emiliano Grilllo, who earned his PGA Tour card in 2015.
