Milo, the Old German and Latinized form of Miles, is believed to be derived from the Slavic element milŭ, meaning "gracious" or "dear," or the Latin word miles, meaning "soldier." It can also come from the English word miles, referring to the unit of measurement. Milo was semi-popular in the United States in the first half of the 20th century, but fell off the Social Security Administration's top 1,000 for boy names in the 1960s. It made its return to the list in 2001 and has now been a top-150 boy's name every year since 2020. It's also the name "Charmed" actress Alyssa Milano gave her son Milo Thomas, born in 2011, but many people today will link the name to "This Is Us" actor Milo Ventimiglia.
