Rhett, a surname-turned-given-name, is the Anglicized form of the Dutch name de Raedt and is derived from the Dutch word raet, meaning "advice" or "counsel." It first appeared on the Social Security Administration's top 1,000 for boy names in 1955, but didn't crack the top-500 until 2013. It continued to rise the ranks and has now been a top-200 boy's name every year since 2017. Its popularity in the U.S. can be attributed to country singer Thomas Rhett, who released his debut single in 2012. Actor Wes Chatham and sportscaster Jenn Brown welcomed a son named Rhett Jameson in 2020.
