Stevie, a diminutive of Stephen and Stephanie, comes from the Greek name Stephanos, meaning "crown," "wreath" or "that which surrounds." It first appeared on the Social Security Administration's top 1,000 for boy names in 1948, but has never ranked higher than 362nd in 1957 (despite being worn by the iconic singer-songwriter Stevie Wonder). Stevie is now more common among girls and has ranked inside SSA's top-300 each year since 2021. For reference, it was given to 1,252 baby girls in 2023, compared to just 124 baby boys. Tennis pro Andy Roddick and his wife, model-actress Brooklyn Decker, have a daughter named Stevie, born in 2017.
