"Cherishing this beautiful trip filled with incredible memories of love, laughter and pure bliss with my family and very delicious food!”
Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, is sharing new details about her ongoing cancer journey.
According to People, while spending time at the Colchester Hospital on Wednesday, July 2, Middleton talked about what it has been like since finishing her cancer treatments.
"You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment. Treatment's done, then it's like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal,' but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult,” Middleton, 43, said, according to People.
"You're not necessarily under the clinical team any longer, but you're not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to," Middleton explained. “And actually, someone to help talk you through that, show you and guide you through that sort of phase that comes after treatment, I think is really valuable."
Middleton was visiting the Colchester Hospital to spend time at a “specially designed well-being garden that offers a restorative space for patients, NHS staff and visitors,” People reported.
"You have to find your new normal and that takes time,” Middleton continued, “and it's a rollercoaster, it's not smooth, like you expect it to be. But the reality is you go through hard times."
Since announcing in September 2024 that she has completed her cancer treatments and later revealing in January that she was in remission, Middleton has slowly began returning to her usual public duties as a member of the Royal family.
Most recently, Middleton was seen with her husband Prince William and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis at Trooping the Colours in June.
In January, Middleton wrote that “it is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focussed on recovery. As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support.”
Middleton also shared a sweet video in September of her family of five spending time together after she had completed chemotherapy.
“The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown,” she wrote on Instagram, alongside the video. “The cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you.”
“This time has above all reminded William and me to reflect and be grateful for the simple yet important things in life, which so many of us often take for granted. Of simply loving and being loved,” she continued, adding that “doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus.
“Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes.”
