Olivia Culpo Opens up About the Identity Crisis She’s Dealt With Since Becoming a Mom

Olivia Culpo recently became a mom for the first time when she and her husband, San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey, welcomed daughter Colette Annalise McCaffrey in July. But while Culpo is mostly cherishing the experience of motherhood, she admits that it has been an adjustment.

The 33-year-old opened up about life with her baby during a recent episode of "The Squeeze" podcast, hosted by the husband and wife team of Taylor Lautner and Taylor Lautner.

"It's been so fun. Every day is so different and I'm really just trying to sit in because I know it goes by so fast," Culpo explained. "Everybody says these are the days that go by quicker than you could have ever imagined. And she's starting to become so much easier, sleeping through the night, not waking up every two hours."

"I really have the opportunity to be grounded and still in each moment, so I'm really trying to," she continued. "Because I know every day she's changing. It's gonna fly by, it already is."

"It was wild and beautiful and everybody says that you look back on it and it's the best time of your life and I will say that's totally true," Culpo said of her birthing experience. "While I was in it, I was really scared and I was thinking I never want to do this again, but now she's 10 weeks and I'm already thinking that I would do it 10 million times over. And maybe I will."

Later, Lautner told Culpo that her own reservation about becoming a mom was her fear of being held back in life and not being able to pursue career opportunities. But the model didn't exactly have reassuring words for her.

"I think that for anybody who says, 'No, you can do it all,' I'm just going to be real with you," she admitted. "There's totally a shift. And whether or not you want there to be or not, you have somebody that's physically dependent on you. So I'm not going to sugarcoat it. Yeah, it's scary."

Culpo credited McCaffrey for her ability to continued working, noting that she's so happy to have the opportunities that she does.

"Let's say they all went away, would I have the same ability 10, 12, 15, 20 years ago to light that fire up my butt when I have somebody who really needs me, which is my baby?" she asked. "No. And I would choose my baby 10 times over, obviously."

"So that's just my honest opinion. It's definitely like a scary time but I'm also just kind of a worry wart in that way," Culpo added. "Like I'm very ambitious, so I did have a little bit of an identity crisis. I really did, and it's very common."

Culpo and McCaffrey first announced they were expecting their first baby together in an Instagram post back in March. "Next chapter, motherhood 🤍," Culpo captioned black-and-white photos from her maternity photoshoot.
