TikTok influencer Emily Mariko, best known for her viral salmon rice bowl recipe, has a very special announcement for her followers.
In a new TikTok, Mariko revealed that she has a new bun–or in this case, pie–in the oven.
That’s right, Mariko is officially expecting her second child with her husband, Matt Rickard.
In the video, Mariko playfully made the announcement by showing off four pies: two adult-sized ones for her and her husband, a small one for their son, and an extra tiny one for the new baby.
Mariko then quietly served slices from the pies in her signature ASMR-style, smiling at the camera and showing off her baby bump.
Using pumpkin pies for her pregnancy announcement is especially cheeky due to the fact that Mariko had previously gone viral in November 2022 for making a pumpkin pie that turned out watery and eating it anyways.
Even now, years later, “Emily Mariko pumpkin pie” is often the top related search query on her videos even when they have nothing to do with pie.
In the comments, her followers congratulated her on her pregnancy and called out her marketing genius in using the pumpkin pie reference.
“What a brilliant way to get a new search result for "emily mariko pumpkin pie" (congrats tho this is v cute),” one commenter said on the video.
“THIS IS THE PERFECT PREGNANCY ANNOUNCEMENT! The pumpkin pie scandal is no more!” another fan added in the comments.
To announce her first pregnancy in December 2023, Mariko made a similar style video using stockings to represent her, her husband, and the baby, making this latest video a sweet addition to the tradition.
