“And Brian was the one who came up with FIVE MARYS for our brand name when we started ranching seven years ago!”
A soon-to-be 6-year-old is going viral for her unique birthday wish.
On Dec. 20, Amanda Biddle — a 33-year-old mom from Michigan — took to her Threads account to share why she and her husband have decided to legally change their daughter’s name for her birthday.
“Her legal name is Margaret Olivia but we call her Maisie and always have. She hates that her name is actually Margaret (family name),” Biddle wrote in the Thread.
“She requested Maisie Margaret-Olivia and we actually like it so we are going to surprise her with the legal change,” she added.

Biddle went on to reveal that her daughter has “hated her name since she could talk” and wasn’t a fan of how often she would hear it at doctor appointments and from her teacher at school.
“She’s only 6 but her feelings have never changed and she’s for sure more of a Maisie,” she explained.
Statistically speaking, Biddle’s daughter is onto something — and certainly getting ahead of the curve.
Margaret, which comes from a Greek word meaning “pearl,” used to be a top-5 name in the U.S. in the early 1900s before falling out of the top 100 in the 1980s, according to the Social Security Administration.
It was the 119th most popular girl’s name in the U.S. in 2024, per the SSA.
Maisie, a common nickname for Magaret, didn’t appear in the SSA’s top 1,000 until 2014 when it debuted at 653rd, but it has been on a steady incline over the past 10 years as it grows in popularity.
It continued that climb in 2024 and ranked 255th — its highest ranking ever.
Biddle knows how her daughter will react to her birthday wish

Biddle and her husband did everything they could to avoid a legal name change for their daughter.
In fact, Biddle took to Threads on Dec. 21 to share that she doesn’t “super love” Margaret-Olivia as a middle name, but at least it will “pay a love and respect for the name that she was given at birth.”
Nonetheless, her daughter knew what she wanted — and remained firm with her demands.

In an interview with TODAY.com, published Jan. 5, Biddle explained that her daughter “rejected Margaret completely” her entire life and it was clear that nothing was changing as she grew older.
“We go to the doctor and they call ‘Margaret’ and she doesn’t look up. At school, all the paperwork says ‘Margaret,’ but her name is Maisie,” Biddle told the outlet.
“She’s constantly correcting people. I’m constantly correcting people, asking, ‘Can you please put a note in your system?’” she added.
Now that Biddle and her husband have made the decision to change it, they can’t wait to give Maisie her long-awaited birthday gift.
“When she’s excited, she puts her hands together, jumps and screams,” Biddle told TODAY.com. “I just know that’s exactly what she's going to do. I can’t wait to see it.”
In a separate Dec. 21 Threads post, Biddle said she had “officially submitted the paperwork to change her name” and that it “can take up to 45 days” for the name to be finalized.
