The name Arlo is believed to be inspired by a fictional place, Arlo Hill, in the 1590 poem "The Faerie Queene" by Edmund Spenser. It's unclear where he got the name from, but some experts attribute it to the Glen of Aherlow, a scenic valley in County Tipperary, Ireland. Aherlow is believed to mean "between two highlands." It started to gain popularity in the U.S. in the 1900s, but faded away in the mid-1940s. It returned to the Social Security Administration's top 1,000 in 2011 and has now cracked the top 200 every year since 2023. Leighton Meester and Adam Brody welcomed a daughter named Arlo in 2015, while Johnny Knoxville shares daughter Arlo, born in 2011, with ex-wife Naomi Nelson.
