Callum, the Scottish Gaelic form of Columba, is derived from the Late Latin word columba, meaning "dove." It was the name given to Saint Columba, a 6th-century Irish monk who established a monastery on the island of Iona and played a large role in converting Scotland to Christianity. It first appeared in the Social Security Administration's top 1,000 for boy names in 2008, but only recently cracked the top 250 for the first time in 2022. It's more popular than Cal, but not as common as Calvin. "Step Up" actress Jenna Dewan welcomed a baby boy, Callum Michael Rebel, with her fiancé and fellow "The Rookie" cast member Steve Kazee in 2020.
