Diana, a powerful mythological name for girls, is derived from the Latin elements dia and diva, meaning "goddess." In Roman mythology, Diana was the goddess of the hunt, nature and animals, and was the Roman equivalent of the Greek goddess Artemis. It has been featured in the Social Security Administration's top 1,000 for girl names every year since 1900 and was a top-100 girl's name every year between 1942 and 1974. While it hasn't cracked the top-200 since 2018, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are doing their part in reviving the name thanks to their daughter Lilibet Diana, born in 2021 and named in honor of Harry's mother, Princess Diana.
