Emmanuel comes from the Hebrew name Immanuʾel, which is derived from the Hebrew elements im, meaning "with," and el, meaning "God." Together, it translates to "with God" or "God is with us." In the Bible, Emmanuel is another name for Jesus and was mentioned in the Book of Isaiah and Gospel of Matthew. It started gaining popularity in the 1950s and cracked the top-200 for the first time in 1987 before settling in that role every year since 2000. Several celebrities have used Emmanuel as a middle name for their children, including Midland musician Jess Carson, "Pretty Little Liars" actress Tammin Sursok, "Grey's Anatomy" star Sarah Drew and CBS journalist Adriana Diaz.
