Eva, a variant of Eve, comes from the Hebrew name Hawwa and is derived from the Hebrew words hawa, meaning "to breathe," and haya, meaning "to live." In the Latin translation of the New Testament, the name Eve (as in Adam and Eve) is spelled Eva. It was a top-100 girl's name in the United States every year between 1900 and 1932 before slowly losing popularity over the next seven decades. It fell as far back as 361st in 1997 but returned to the top-100 each year between 2009 and 2021. It's the name Brandon Jenner, son of Caitlyn Jenner, gave his baby girl Eva James, whom he shares with ex-wife Leah James.
