Iris, one of the trendiest names of the 2020s, is gaining popularity as a versatile color name, flower name and mythological name. It's derived from the Greek word iris, meaning "rainbow," and was the name of the goddess of rainbows in Greek mythology. It can also refer to the iris flower or the colored part of the eye. The name has been featured in the Social Security Administration's top 1,000 for girl names every year since 1900, but only recently cracked the top-100 for the first time (in 2022). Several celebrities have helped popularize the name by giving it to their daughters, including "The Kitchen" host Katie Lee, "Fantastic Beasts" actor Eddie Redmayne and British actress Catherine Tyldesley. It's also the middle name of singer-actress Ashley Tisdale's daughter Jupiter Iris.
