Isabella, the Latinate form of Isabel, is derived from the Hebrew name Elisheva and composed of the Hebrew elements el, meaning "God," and shava, meaning "oath." Together, it translates to "oath to God" or "my God is an oath." The name was popular in the early 1900s but faded off the Social Security Administration's top 1,000 for girl names by 1950. It made a comeback in 1990 and was a top-100 girl's name by 1998 before settling in the top-10 every year since 2004. Several celebrities have named their daughter Isabella, including singer Ne-Yo, actors Jason Statham and his wife Rosie Huntington-Whitely and "Even Stevens" alum Christy Carlson Romano. Other parents prefer to spell it Isabelle or Isabel.
