The name Isaiah comes from the Hebrew name Yeshaʿyahu, which is composed of the Hebrew elements yasha, meaning "to save," and yah, referring to the Hebrew God. Together, it translates to "God saves" or "God is salvation." Isaiah is widely regarded as the greatest of the four major prophets in the Old Testament. It was scarcely used in the U.S. throughout the 1900s before gaining popularity towards the end of the century. Isaiah has now been a top-100 boy's name every year since 1996 and is the name "Parks and Recreation" actress Rashida Jones gave her son Isaiah Jones, born in 2018. Country singer Carrie Underwood also has a son named Isaiah Michael, born in 2015.
