The name Jesus comes from the Greek name Iesous, which is ultimately derived from the Aramaic name Yeshua and Hebrew name Yehoshua (Joshua), both of which mean "God is salvation." It's the name given to Yeshua ben Yoseph in the New Testament, whom most believers know as Jesus Christ, the son of God and the Virgin Mary. Jesus, sometimes pronounced hey-SOUS, has appeared in the Social Security Administraiton's top 1,000 for boy names every year since 1900 and was even a top-100 boy's name between 1990 and 2011. It has fallen back since, but remains in the top-175 and isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
