Josephine, a feminine variant of Joseph, comes from the Hebrew name Yosef and is derived from the Hebrew word yasaf, meaning "to add" or "to increase." It was a top-100 girl's name throughout much of the first half of the 20th century before nearly dropping out of the top-500 in the late-1980s. Josephine has since made a comeback and has now been a top-100 girl's name every year since 2018. Several celebrities have named their daughter Josephine, including pastry chef Duff Goldman, actress Sara Foster and "All My Children" star Elizabeth Hendrickson. Meanwhile, "7th Heaven" alum Beverley Mitchell used it as a middle name for her daughter Mayzel Josephine.
