The name Jude is either a shortened form of the name Judas (the Greek form of Judah, meaning "praise") or a nickname for Judith (from the Hebrew word yehudi, meaning "Jewish woman"). The name first appeared in the Social Security Administration's top 1,000 for boy names in the 1950s, but didn't grow popular until the early 2000s. Jude has now been a top-200 boy's name every year since 2009. "The Glee" star Jayma Mays welcomed a son named Jude, born in 2016, and UK actress Charlotte Dawson also named her son Jude, born in 2023.
