Juliette, the French diminutive of Julie and Julia, is among the long line of names to derive from the Roman family name Julius, meaning "downy-bearded" or "youth" from the Greek word ioulos. Juliette was scarcely used in the United States throughout the 1900s and early 2000s, but started gaining popularity in 2010 and has now been a top-200 girl's name every year since 2018, per the Social Security Administration. In fact, Juliette is more common than Julie, Juliet, Julieta, Julianna and Juliana, despite "Sonny With a Chance" alum Tiffany Thornton going with the Juliet spelling for her daughter Juliet Joy, whom she shares with Josiah Capaci.
