The name Katherine comes from the Greek name Aikaterine, which is believed to be derived from the Greek words hekateros, meaning "each of the two," or katharos, meaning "pure." It was a top-100 girl's name in the United States every year between 1900 and 2016, with the exception of a five-year span in the 1930s, but has now fallen out of the top-150 each year since 2021. Katherine is still the preferred spelling over Catherine and is the way "The Office" star Mindy Kaling spells her daughter's name, born in 2017. It's also the name of Arnold Schwarzenegger's daughter, Katherine, who now has three kids with actor Chris Pratt.
