Kevin, the Anglicized form of the Irish name CaoimhÃn, is derived from the Old Irish elements cóem, meaning "dear" and "beloved," and gein, meaning "birth." Together, it translates to "beloved birth." It started gaining popularity in the United States in the 1920s and was a top-100 boy's name every year between 1949 and 2016. Though not as popular as it once was, Kevin is still a top-200 boy's name and was given to approximately 1,914 baby boys in 2023. It's a common Christmas-inspired name thanks to Kevin McCallister, Macaulay Culkin's character in "Home Alone." It has also been popularized by actors Kevin Costner, Kevin Bacon and Kevin Hart.
