Lennon, an Irish surname-turned-given-name, comes from the Irish byname Leannán, meaning "lover." The name was popularized by John Lennon, the late beloved member of The Beatles, but didn't appear in the Social Security Administration's top 1,000 for boy names until 2008. It has since grown more popular as a girl's name and debuted in the SSA's top 1,000 in 2013, one year after singer-actress Lennon Stella joined the cast of "Nashville." It has now been a top-250 girl's name every year since 2021 and is the name country singer Thomas Rhett chose for his daughter Lennon Love, born in 2020.
