The name Lila is believed to be a variant of Leila and Layla, meaning "night" in Persian, or Lily, referring to the flower. It was a popular girl's name in the first half of the 20th century before falling off the Social Security Administration's top 1,000 in the 1970s. Lila made a return at the turn of the century and has been a top-250 girl's name every year since 2008. It's also the name model and fashion designer Kate Moss gave her daughter Lila Grace, born in 2002.
