Miguel, the Spanish form of Michael, comes from the Hebrew name Mika'el, which is composed of the Hebrew elements mi and ke, meaning "like," combined with el, meaning "God." Therefore, Miguel translates to "who is like God?" The name has appeared in the Social Security Administration's top 1,000 for boy names every year since 1900, but didn't crack the top-250 until 1964. It was a top-100 boy's name every year between 1991 and 2007, but has slowly lost its grip and nearly dropped out of the top-200 in 2023. It's the name Hall of Fame boxer Mike Tyson gave one of his sons Miguel, born in 2002.
