The name Sadie is a diminutive of Sarah, which comes from the Hebrew name Sara, meaning "lady," "princess" or "noblewoman." It was a top-100 girl's name in the U.S. between 1900 and 1908, but eventually fell out of the top 1,000 in the mid-1960s, per the Social Security Administration. Sadie returned to the top 1,000 in 1974, cracked the top-200 in 2003 and has now been a top-100 girl's name since 2013. It's also the name of actress Christina Applegate's daughter Sadie Grace, born in 2011.
