Sara, a variant of Sarah, comes from the Hebrew name Sara and Hebrew word sara, meaning "lady," "princess" or "noblewoman." In the Bible, Sarah was the wife of Abraham and mother of Isaac. Sara has been a top-200 girl's name in the United States every year since 1900 and was even a top-100 girl's name between 1973 and 2008. It's not as popular as Sarah, which has spent much of the past 125 years inside the top-100, but is more common than Sarahi, Sarai and Sariah.
