In Greek mythology, Selene (also known as Mene or Luna) was the goddess and personification of the moon, often depicted as traveling across the sky in a chariot. Selena started to grow in popularity in the 1970s and peaked in 1995 when it debuted inside the top-100 for girl names, but has since dwindled in popularity and has been outside of the top-200 every year since 2000, according to the Social Security Administration.
