Tate, a surname-turned-given-name, was derived from the Old English name Tata, meaning "happy" or "glad." It first appeared in the Social Security Administration's top 1,000 in 1971, but it fell off the list by 1979. Tate made its return in 1990 and slowly gained popularity ever since, jumping into the top-200 for the first time ever in 2023. Emma Bunton, one of the Spice Girls, named her son Tate Lee, born in 2011.
