Zachary, the English form of Zacharias and Zechariah, comes from the Hebrew name Zekarya and is composed of the Hebrew elements zakar, meaning "to remember," and yah, meaning "God." Therefore, Zachary translates to "God remembers" or "remember God." It first appeared in the Social Security Administration's top 1,000 in 1946 and was a top-100 boy's name every year between 1976 and 2016. It has fallen back in recent years, but remains in the top-200 and was given to approximately 2,112 baby boys in 2023. It's also the name iconic singer Elton John and his husband David Furnish gave their son Zachary Jackson Levon, born in 2010.
