We are officially in the era of parents doing their best to choose very unique baby names. Case in point, one influencer couple based out of Wales in the United Kingdom gave fans a visceral reaction when they revealed their newborn's name.
Cory and Lea Charlotte have together amassed over one million followers on their respective TikTok accounts, which features mostly food and lifestyle content. After welcoming their little bundle of joy late last month, the couple still had not revealed the child's name until this week.
The moment you’ve all been waiting for,” they captioned the post, shared to the Cory's World account. In the clip, the couple are seen sitting on the couch while Lea holds their baby and Cory looks down at his phone, as notifications pop up all over the screen from those wanting to know: "What’s his name?"
Finally, the camera pans to a 3-2-1... countdown, revealing their son's name to be "Adventure," which was spelled out on a personalized knitted onesie with a bear on the front.
Suffice to say, people were ... not impressed with the unusual name.
"That is definitely a fake name for Internet," one user remarked. Although, the couple doubled down in a follow-up post, indicating that it was in no way a joke. "Adventure is here, a love as big as your name," Cory captioned the image.
Others were even less kind.
"Who on gods green earth thought adventure was OK to call a baby, what the hell," wrote another user, while another comment read, "This is a joke, calling a child adventure is ridiculous stop trying to be different."
"He’s already going to get bullied for his parents posting themselves eating [take out food] every day like slobs on the internet for everyone to see," scathed yet another user. "Now he has to deal with that awful name on top of it all. You’ve genuinely just set him up for bullying for life."
It would indeed appear that baby names are out of control. Recently, a registered NICU nurse named Victoria posted on TikTok to solicit "unhinged" baby names, via Buzzfeed.
"I'm not talking about like Naveah, I'm talking so unhinged that it would send the social security office into a coma," she wrote. However, the responses give even Adventure a run for his money.
Among the submissions were twins named "Brock Lee and Callie Flower," twins abracadabra and alacazam, Ho'Nasty (pronounced "honesty"), Frijoles Guacamole, and simply enough, "Blessica."
So all things considered, Adventure is probably going to turn out just fine.
