If Irish boy names are trending, then there’s a good chance Liam is leading the way. 

After all, Liam — the Irish short form of William (Uilliam) — has been the No. 1 most popular boy’s name in the U.S. every year since 2017, according to the Social Security Administration (SSA). 

It’s also the eighth most popular boy’s name in Ireland, according to the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

But if it’s Irish boys names you want, then why stop your search at Liam? 

Owen, which means “born from the yew tree” in Irish, was the 26th most popular boy’s name in the U.S. in 2024, while Aiden, which means “little fire” in Irish, ranked 47th, according to the SSA. 

Nolan (64th), Rowan (71st) and Ryan (87th) also cracked the top-100 in the U.S. last year. 

In Ireland, the names Rian (Irish form of Ryan), Cillian (“chuch” in Irish), Tadhg (“poet” in Irish), Fionn (“blessed” in Irish) and Oisin (“deer” in Irish) all finished inside the top-10 in 2024, according to the CSO. 

Other Irish names for boys popular in Ireland include Finn, Sean, Patrick and Conor.
