“I think unless you like a name, you probably shouldn’t say anything about it. She’s right. Nobody asked you.”
“Game of Thrones” baby names are either a hit or miss with parents today.
Arya, for example, was the 942nd most popular girl’s name in 2010 — the year before “Game of Thrones” came out — but has since skyrocketed in popularity and has ranked in the top-200 every year since 2015.
Names like Daenerys, Tyrion, Sansa, Sandor and Brienne aren’t as popular, but are still in use today.
On Oct. 17, Jackie Reinhart — a Boston-based mom — took to TikTok to share that she’s one of the many moms who used the hit HBO series as inspiration when choosing a name for her son.

And while she loves the name and its meaning, she can’t help but feel regret over her decision.
“The reason I regret it is because it’s so unique that it has basically made my son feel like his name is weird, when I think his name is actually beautiful,” she said — stopping short of revealing the name.
She did, however, give her followers some clues as to what it might be.
“In Hebrew, it actually means ‘early monsoon rains,’ which I love because that’s the first rains of spring,” she explained. “It’s like the first rains that bring life back after the winter.”
The name she’s likely referring to is Jorah — as in Iain Glen’s character, Jorah Mormont.
Jorah, which was given to only 21 baby boys and seven baby girls in 2024, according to the Social Security Administration, translates to “early rain” in Hebrew via the word yara and name Yora.
The Hebrew name’s meaning also translates to “teacher,” or “to throw,” according to Behind the Name.
In the HBO series, Jorah was an exiled knight from Westeros who served as a key advisor and protector to Daenerys Targaryen, played by Emilia Clarke.
Are ‘Game of Thrones’ baby names too unique to handle?
As much as she loves the origin behind the name, Reinhart’s son is having a hard time accepting it.
In her video, Reinhart recalled tucking her son into bed one night when he said to her: “Mom, I’m never gonna meet anyone with my name.”
She tried to convince her son that having a unique name is special, but he disagreed.
“My son’s super social and he was like, ‘No, I want kids with my name. I want kids to have the same name as me,’” she added. “I think he sees his friends who all have the same name and he feels left out.”

She went on to clarify that her son often has to correct others when trying to say his name, which he finds “awkward” and ultimately led to some regret on her part.
“I do, in the end, regret naming my kid after a ‘Game of Thrones’ character, even though I really love the name,” she said at the end of the video. “But it’s just a little too unique.”
