Can You Guess the 50 Most Popular Baby Boy Names of 2024?

Ryan Brennan | May 19, 2025

It’s that time of year again.

On May 11, the Social Security Administration (SSA) celebrated Mother’s Day with the official release of the 1,000 most popular boy names in the United States for 2024.

As was expected, Liam (No. 1) and Noah (No. 2) came out on top for the eighth consecutive year.

In fact, not much changed from 2023 to 2024 as the top-10 consisted of the same names — albeit in a different order.

Theodore jumped from 7th in 2023 to 4th in 2024 and Henry jumped from 8th to 6th, while James, Elijah and Mateo each digressed. Liam, Noah, Oliver, Lucas and William saw no change at all.

Here’s a look at how the top-10 shaped up in 2024:

Name# of babies born in 2024

7. Mateo11,302 baby boys
8. Elijah11,171 baby boys
9. Lucas10,703 baby boys
10. William10,596 baby boys

2024, of course, marked the 29th consecutive year of the SSA releasing the coveted top-1000 list of baby boy names — a tradition the agency started in 1997.

The SSA gathers its data from the millions of Social Security cards that are registered at the time of a child’s birth each year.

For 2024, the SSA’s database included 3,612,777 babies — 1,845,330 of which were born male.

With the United States ready to welcome several million more babies in 2025, let’s take a closer look at the top-50 most popular boys names across the country and what those names mean for your future son.
