Mia, Isabella and Sofia all ranked inside the SSA’s top-10 most popular girl names in the U.S. in 2024.
For Trisha Paytas, giving her son an aquatic name was always the plan.
The 37-year-old YouTuber took to her “Just Trish” podcast on July 22 to open up about the arrival of her newborn son, whom she welcomed with husband Moses Hacmon on July 12.
Towards the end of the episode, Paytas revealed her baby boy’s name for the first time: Aquaman Moses.

“I will say, entering my boy mom era, I was like this is it,” she said of the name, which was inspired by the DC character and film franchise.
“This is the best movie we’ve ever seen,” she said of the film. “We watched three movies to really solidify this name.”
But Aquaman wasn’t the only water-inspired baby name the couple considered.
Paper Mate, Aladdin and Moses Jr. were also on their list, but it was the name Water Snake that had Paytas and her husband second-guessing themselves.
“I will say my number one that we were so close to naming the baby is not a movie poster but I loved it so much,” she said on the podcast. “It’s Moses’ poem Water Snake.”
Paytas was referring to her husband’s poem titled “Water Snake,” which he released on YouTube in 2017.
She said the name was also fitting because it’s the Year of the Snake in the Chinese zodiac and, in the Bible, God transforms Moses’ staff into a snake.
“We love water. I loved [the movie] Water World. I loved the name Water,” Paytas added. “At the end of the day, Moses loves water, I’ve adopted his philosophy.”
But after watching all the “Aquaman” movies, Paytas and Hacmon settled on Aquaman Moses.
“He’s of two heritages, like our baby,” she said when comparing her baby to the Aquaman character.
“He connects the land and sea, which is Moses’ order at Benihana. He can talk telepathically to fish. He’s also blonde and brunette, which—plot twist: our Aquaman has blonde hair,” she added.
On July 8, Paytas took to TikTok to share that she also considered the names Lemon, Squeezie, Squooshie and Rainbow Sherbert.
In addition to Aquaman, the couple also share daughters Malibu Barbie, 2, and Elvis, 13 months, according to People.
Other water names parents can give their baby boy or girl
If you thought the name Aquaman was unique for a baby, then you were right.
Not only has Aquaman never appeared in the Social Security Administration’s top 1,000 for any year since 1900, but it didn’t even crack the list of baby names given to at least five baby boys in 2024.
In fact, even the name Aqua was given to less than five babies in 2024, according to the SSA.
But don’t let that fool you because aquatic names and water names are quite popular in the United States today.
Just look at the name Hudson, which was the 22nd most popular boy’s name in 2024, per the SSA, and Isla, the 35th most popular girl’s name in the United States last year.
Hudson, which means “son of Hugh,” can be inspired by the Hudson River, while Isla translates to “island” in Spanish and Scottish.
Other water names to crack the SSA’s top 1,000 last year include Dylan, Brooke, Coraline, Caspian, Ocean, Adrian, Kai, Kaia and Kailani.
