Bill Belichick is setting the record straight.
The 73-year-old football coach is breaking his silence after a whirlwind past few days that began with a viral interview with “CBS Sunday Morning,” which aired on April 27.
In one clip from the interview, Belichick’s 24-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson interrupted reporter Tony Dokoupil after asking a question about how they met.

“We’re not talking about this,” Hudson interjected from a nearby desk.
On April 30, Bill Belichick released a statement explaining what went wrong in the interview and defended his girlfriend’s behavior — ultimately accusing CBS of creating a “false narrative.”
“Prior to this interview, I clearly communicated with my publicist at Simon & Schuster that any promotional interviews I participated in would agree to focus solely on the contents of the book," he wrote, per People.
Belichick agreed to do the interview to help promote his memoir, “The Art of Winning: Lessons from My Life in Football,” to be released May 6.
"Unfortunately, that expectation was not honored during the interview,” he added.
The statement was reportedly sent via email from the University of North Carolina, which hired Belichick as their football team’s head coach earlier this year.
Belichick said he was “surprised” at how often Dokoupil asked questions unrelated to his book and “repeatedly expressed” his desire to focus on the book.
"After this occurred several times, Jordon, with whom I share both a personal and professional relationship, stepped in to reiterate that point to help refocus the discussion,” he said of the viral moment.
Belichick insisted that Hudson wasn’t “deflecting any specific question” and was “simply doing her job.”
"The final eight-minute segment does not reflect the productive 35-minute conversation we had, which covered a wide range of topics related to my career," he wrote, per People.
"It presents selectively edited clips and stills from just a few minutes of the interview to suggest a false narrative — that Jordon was attempting to control the conversation — which is simply not true,” he added.
His comments come one day after Hudson shared an email Belichick had sent to his publishing team several weeks prior.
In the email, Belichick slams the media for focusing solely on the negative aspects of his book — adding that the hype it’s creating about the book is unnecessary and lacks authenticity.
“I am not going to be the conductor of a hype train in the book promotion — we have enough hype to work with,” the email read. “I hope we can get on the same page in promoting the book authentically.”
Belichick confirms the origin of his relationship with Hudson
In the “CBS Sunday Morning” interview, Belichick briefly spoke about his relationship with Hudson — moments before Hudson’s interruption.
"I’ve never been too worried about what everyone else thinks,” Belichick said of the attention his relationship receives online.
“Just try to do what I feel like is best for me, and what’s right,” he added.
That’s when Dokoupil asked, “How did you two meet?” — to which Hudson replied, “We’re not talking about this.”

In his April 30 email, Belichick continued to defend his girlfriend’s reaction, per People.
"Some of the clips make it appear as though we were avoiding the question of how we met, but we have been open about the fact that Jordon and I met on a flight to Palm Beach in 2021,” Belichick wrote.
That fact was first shared by Hudson in February.
In the video, uploaded to her Instagram page Feb. 11, Hudson opens a book she had signed by Belichick when they first met four years ago.
“February 11th, 2025 ➡️ February 11th, 2021. Happy Meetiversary,” she wrote in the caption. “Cheers to the fact that you still let me give you lengthy philosophical lectures four years later.”
In the book, Belichick wrote, “Thanks for giving me a course on logic! Safe travels!” above his signature.
