“Give me a second. I’m talking about my sister, man.”
Following some time away from her home in California, pop music legend Britney Spears is sharing a statement.
On Thursday, May 22, Spears was aboard a private plane when she was reprimanded for lighting a cigarette.
Original reports by KTLA say Spears immediately put out the cigarette but also received a warning from authorities waiting for her at LAX.
Now, in a statement shared on Instagram, Spears is speaking out.
“Me yesterday,” she wrote alongside a short video clip of her on the plane with a bottle in her hand. “It’s actually incredibly funny !!! Some planes I’ve been on you can’t smoke mostly but this one was different because the drink holders were on outside of seat,” she continued.
According to U.S. Department of Transportation, “smoking is prohibited on all scheduled-service flights of U.S. airlines. As a general matter, foreign airlines must also ban smoking on all scheduled-service flight segments in, to and from the United States. Cigar and pipe smoking is banned on all U.S.-carrier flights (both scheduled and charter).”
The DOT adds that smoking on charter flights is not banned by law but those airlines “are not required to have a smoking section. An airline is free to ban smoking on a particular flight, or on all of its flights.”

The “Oops, I Did It Again” singer then shared a “confession. It was my first time drinking VODKA!!! I swear I felt so SMART. I was like, ‘Wow, what the heck is in there!!! I felt so clear and smart!!! And said I want a cigarette so bad!!!”
Spears goes on to say that her “friend put (the cigarette) in my mouth and lit it up for me so I was like, ‘OH SO THIS IS A PLANE WHERE YOU CAN SMOKE!!!’”
The 43-year-old went on to apologize for the misunderstanding. “I do so apologize to anyone I offended but the flight attendants always make sure I’m way at the back of plane anyways!!!”
“I thought officials greeted me as support and I was like, ‘WOW I feel special!!!’ I’ve never been to an international airport!!! Am I famous or something??? The flight attendant called officials because I smoked a cigarette!!! And embarrass me which jeez I thought was kinda much but she didn’t like me the moment I got on plane!!!”
“Nobody was on the plane for first 20 minutes and she wouldn’t let me get out of my seat I wanted to stand up,” Spears added. “She acted so weird about making sure I sat down and it was weird!!! I didn’t like the way she put the seatbelt on me and invaded my space!!! Oh well.”
