"I'm doing as well as one can after 60 years being with and loving somebody.”
After sharing the news of Sheinelle Jones’ husband’s death, “Today Show” co-hosts Carson Daly and Savannah Guthrie shared messages to Jones’ three kids.
Both Daly and Guthrie lost their respective fathers at a young age. As Daly explained he was 5 years old when his father died, Guthrie was 16.
“I can’t help but think of my own life in this situation,” Daly shared after hearing the news. “You think so much about these young children, your heart goes out to them.”
Jones’ husband, Uche Ojeh, was 45 years old at the time of his death. Ojeh died after being diagnosed with “an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma.”
Jones and Ojeh share three children together, 15-year-old Kayin and 12-year-old twins, Uche and Clara.
“My father was 46,” Daly continued. “I was 5 when my dad died. My dad was young, unexpected cancer diagnosis, passed, and I think back now 45 years later, my faith in God.”

“I mean God has blessed me in my life, so here I am, the young kid, and I say eventually, God gave me two incredible fathers, incredible figures in my life and my life has been so fulfilling and I’m so blessed for that,” Daly shared. “So I pray for their family and the kids that they’ll have that fortune as well.”
Even now, Daly said he prays to his father often. “I say, ‘I know you’re watching over me. I’m okay. It’s okay. You’re home where you’re supposed to be with your heavenly father. And I’m thriving here and it’s okay,’ trying to take that burden off my father,.”
Guthrie agreed with Daly’s sentiments, adding that “you can survive the loss of your father as young people, as we did.”
“And thrive,” Melvin added.
On Friday, May 23, Guthrie shared the heartbreaking announcement on behalf of Jones.
“With profound sadness, we share this morning that Uche Ojeh, the husband of our friend and TODAY co-host Sheinelle Jones, has passed away after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma,” Guthrie shared.
“There are no words for the pain we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children. Uche was an incredible person. We all loved him. And so we want to take a moment to tell you more about the remarkable man who was Sheinelle’s perfect partner in life.”
Jones and Ojeh were married for 17 years.
In a brief statement on Instagram, Jones wrote, “Thank you, for all of your love and support.”
