“After 21 years of marriage, I have made the most difficult decision of my life.”
Christy Carlson Romano is reliving the moment she thought she was going to die.
The 41-year-old Disney Channel star, best known for her role on “Even Stevens” and voicing the main character in “Kim Possible,” was shooting clay pigeons with her husband when the unthinkable happened.
“Oh that’s dope, I just got shot,” she recalled thinking to herself as blood dripped down her forehead.

Romano opened up about the “out of body” experience, which she’s not “at liberty to say specifics” about, during a recent appearance on the “Not a Damn Chance!” podcast, which was shared by People.
The pre-recorded episode is set to be released June 10, according to the outlet.
“It’s a birdshot that got sprayed in my direction by another party, and essentially it was within 200 feet, which means really fast and hot,” she said of the gunshot wound to her face.
“They weren’t malicious. It wasn’t aggravated assault. It’s what happened,” she added. “I feel very out of body about it… it’s pretty wild.”
Romano clarified that she was celebrating her husband Brendan Rooney’s birthday on Feb. 7 when the incident occurred.
The couple met in 2011, got engaged in 2012 and tied the knot in 2013 before starting a family, per People.
“I’m shocked and what goes through my head immediately is, ‘Oh that’s dope, I just got shot.’ And then I go, ‘Oh now I’m gonna die,’ she recalled.
At the time, her husband wasn’t sure if she had been hit because she didn’t scream and was too shocked to react. Instead, she simply gave her husband a thumbs up.
“He was like ‘Oh, you’re good.’ And I was like ‘No I'm hit.’ He goes, ‘Oh s—,’” she said of the confusion.
She went on to clarify that her thumbs up was a habit she picked up from her time on the show “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test,” where contestants would give a thumbs up if they were doing okay.
Romano describes her gunshot wounds as a ‘scientific miracle’
Romano was cracking jokes by the time she got to the hospital, but there was a time when her mind was stuck in the worst case scenario.
“I felt this huge rush that I’d never felt before where I was starting to get really woozy,” she explained.
“I was covered in blood from my forehead…and I said three things. I was like, am I gonna die? Who’s gonna take care of the girls? Is my career over?”
The Disney Channel star, who shares two daughters — Isabella, 7, and Sofia, 5 — with Rooney, went on to describe her gunshot wounds as a “scientific miracle.”
“If my head would’ve been tilted in any other direction, I would have been blind in my right eye,” she revealed.
“Or if I had turned my head, I could have gotten hit in a softer side of my skull and I would have potentially been dead,” she added.
She clarified that she still has a shotgun pellet fragment in her forehead and behind one of her eyes, which she says came one millimeter away from blinding her.
Nonetheless, she did her best to keep those around her (including herself) calm.
“In retrospect, I was trying to be funny and not cry because I wanted the people around me to feel more calm so that they could take better care of me,” she said of her hospital visit.
