Dancing With the Stars announces it’s first season 34 contestant and it’s a face so many people love

Sara Vallone04/23/25

On Tuesday, April 22, ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” began announcing the contestants expected to compete on season 34 of the show.

And the first contestant announced is someone people all around the world have come to know and love.

He’s also the brother of one of the winner of the mirror ball trophy.

If you guessed Australia Zoo prince Robert Irwin, then you’re spot on.

On April 22, “Dancing With the Stars” announced that Robert will be one of the dozen stars to compete for the 34th mirror ball trophy, following in his sister Bindi Irwin’s footsteps.

Bindi won the season 21 mirror ball trophy with her partner, now judge of the show, Derek Hough.

Despite beginning to announce its contestants, the premiere date has not yet been made public for season 34.

In a video shared on social media, Robert celebrated the announcement shirtless while wearing khakis and a large snake around his neck.

“All I can say is Crikey,” Robert shared after host Julianna Hough, judge Derek Hough, and professionals Rylee Arnold and Ezra Sosa announced him.

“Mate, I cannot tell you what an honor, what a privilege it is to be joining this season. I am over the moon,” he continued while at the “Get Real Hulu” event. “Let’s do this.”

Bindi celebrated alongside her brother with her own Instagram post.

“DANCING WITH THE STARS SEASON 34 - LET’S GOOOO,” she wrote next to a photo of herself and Robert in their Australia Zoo uniforms.

“Robert, you are going to absolutely shine in the ballroom. I wish I could express the magnitude of how proud I am of you and everything you have achieved. Can’t wait to cheer you on each week as you inspire so many with your strength, kindness and determination. Here’s to an extraordinary journey ahead.”

Bindi then reminisced and got nostalgic about her own time on the show.

“Can’t believe it’s been 10 years since I won with the most remarkable human being, Derek Hough. So excited to be back in the ballroom celebrating my brother," she concluded.
