Drew Barrymore Shares Honest Insights About Raising Her Kids

Lauren Jarvis-Gibson | October 27, 2025

Drew Barrymore is opening up about the challenges of raising her children in the world today. In a clip from her show on October 27, the actress shared her thoughts with actress Brittney Snow.

“Now I’m raising kids who aren’t in the business, trying to give them a very normal childhood, and we’re living in a world full of the same pitfalls I grew up with,” she said. “Everyone is out there, everyone can share their opinion—it’s a vulnerable experience to be this exposed. We’re thinking about all the other people, not just ourselves.”

“Sometimes I worry that I have an unhealthy amount of fear for others because I don’t want them to experience those things. How can I protect my kids from that? But there’s only so much we can do when it’s coming at them from everywhere.”

The 50-year-old went on to explain that she can’t fully relate to her kids since she hasn’t shared the same experiences “I don’t remember what it was like to be a kid in school, because I wasn’t really a kid in school.” Snow agreed, saying, “Same”.

Raising kids has forced me to check my baggage at the door. I have knowledge and experience that can help them, but ultimately, this is their life and their experience—they are not going to be me.”

Barrymore shares two children, Olive, 12, and Frankie, 11, with ex-husband Will Kopelman. After getting married in 2012, the pair divorced in 2016.

When speaking about the painful divorce Barrymore revealed to AARP Magazine, “My dream family was falling apart and I didn’t know how to put one foot in front of the other.  I had grown up so fast but now I didn’t know what age to feel—I just knew that my life was heavy, and painful and sad—and I sat in that for a while.”

“Eventually, thank goodness, I lifted myself out of it,” she also said. “I had two kids and I had to figure it out. They’re literally worth everything, and I’m going to love them, and be inspired by them, and not be codependent. They can be my why, but I think I know how to do this without making them the center of my universe.”
