Taylor Swift's 'The Life of a Showgirl' is here. Here's what parents should know about the album

Sara Vallone | October 3, 2025

It’s October 3, which means Taylor Swift has released her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl.

As fans worldwide are diving into the album at their green and orange Showgirl-themed listening party, we are hear to tell you everything you need to know about the album before you let your little ones indulge in it.

What does Taylor Swift say about her own album?

After releasing The Life of a Showgirl, Swift took to Instagram to share a note with her fans. "Tonight all these lives converge here. The mosaics of laughter and cocktails of tears. Where fraternal souls sing identical things. And it’s beautiful. It’s rapturous. It is frightening."

"I can’t tell you how proud I am to share this with you, an album that just feels so right," Swift continued. "A forever thank you goes out to my mentors and friends Max and Shellback for helping me paint this self portrait. If you thought the big show was wild, perhaps you should come and take a look behind the curtain... The Life of a Showgirl is out now."

How would we describe The Life of a Showgirl?

Swift’s 12th studio album is a nod to her past pop albums including 1989 and Reputation. It's an album you'll want to dance to, while some of the lyrics will leave you blushing, and others will cut you deep.

What to know about The Life of a Showgirl?

The album consists of 12 songs…for now. Out of the 12 songs, 8 of them are labeled as explicit. Having listened to all 12 songs, the 8 explicit tracks range in severity.

"Wood" is particularly sensual, while "Wi$h Li$t" is her most explicit song.

Some of "Father Figure" lyrics read, "I'll be your father figure, I drink that brown liquor, I'll make a deal with the devil because my d*ck's bigger..."

Some of "Eldest Daughter" lyrics read, "cause I'm not a bad b*tch and this isn't savage..."

The good news is, if you which to shield your children’s ears from the explicit language, there is the clean version of the album available for download on all streaming platforms.

A switch up?

In my opinion, while Swift is known for putting her most emotional, hardest hitting song in the fifth slot. But while "Eldest Daughter" lyrics include "

"Ruin the Friendship" to me reads like a deeply personal song that details the death of a friend and living with regrets.
