“This isn’t the Oscars, honey! We’re not changing for the after party!”
Jason Kelce is weighing in on his favorite tracks from Taylor Swift’s new album, The Life of a Showgirl.
On the latest episode of New Heights — the podcast he co-hosts with his brother, Travis Kelce — the former Philadelphia Eagles player didn’t hesitate when asked which songs stood out to him.
“Well, as I texted you the day it came out, I’d say the top two songs I liked right away were Opalite and Eldest Daughter,” Jason, 37, told Travis, 36.
He went on to explain why Opalite especially struck a chord with him.“I’m a sucker for any type of… I’m trying to think of the right way to describe it, but, like, you’re down in the dumps. Everything’s kinda not going right. You’re uneasy in the world,” he said. “Then it’s like, onyx skies turn into opalite — f------, we’re back in it, baby. And I’m all about it.”
Jason also shared that the song’s energy gave him holiday vibes. “Opalite, we’re f------ back in it, baby. The chorus is very Christmasy to me — very joyous,” he added.
When it comes to Eldest Daughter, the fifth track off of Swift’s album, Jason couldn’t help but admit his love of ballads. “I’m a sucker for a ballad, and I just think the expression in that song and the sentiment behind it is beautiful,” he said. “Taylor, obviously being an amazing writer, knocked it out of the park with that one. I really love that song.”
Jason went on to name several other top favorites, including The Fate of Ophelia, The Life of a Showgirl, and Actually Romantic. “It feels ‘90s to me a little bit,” he shared. “I thought that was a lot of fun.”
Another track that’s grown on him is Wi$h Li$t, which his wife, Kylie Kelce, first recommended.
“Kylie listened to that first, and she was the one who told me to go back and listen to it,” he said. “I listened to it while reading the lyrics — because sometimes I need to do that — and I think the sentiment behind that song is fantastic. It’s about what life really is about and what relationships are really about. It’s just really well done.”
The former center also mentioned that he loves Honey because it reminded him of Kylie. Cue your “awwws”.
“Kylie hates being called pet names,” the father of four admitted. “That’s always fantastic to me, because pet names can be really condescending — people for sure can take it that way. Honey is fantastic. I think she hits the nail on the head — when you’re in a relationship, it’s different when somebody calls you ‘honey.’”
