‘Bachelorette’ star Katie Thurston reveals results of major cancer scan months after starting treatment

Sara Vallone | July 7, 2025

Former “The Bachelorette” star Katie Thurston is sharing the results of her first major scan since beginning treatment for breast cancer.

In February, the reality television star turned social media influencer was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic breast cancer. As she wrote on Instagram, she originally discovered the lump in her breast “maybe 12 months ago.”

“I was 33 years old with no family history,” Thurston continued in her Instagram post. “Why would I ever suspect cancer - but it was.”

“Cancer doesn’t happen overnight and neither should your medical decisions,” she continued. “I delayed treatment to transfer my care to Columbia. I delayed treatment to pursue IVF… I delayed treatment because I attempted to join a clinical trial, only to be denied after discovering I had metastatic breast cancer, meaning stage IV, for life.”

It was three months ago that her team of doctors put together a treatment plan for Thurston. “I was finally put on a plan for my HR+ HER2- breast cancer. Kisqali + Lupron + Letrozole.

On Monday, July 7, Thurston underwent a series of scans to see if the treatment plan is working.

“Today the scans confirmed the tumors are SHRINKING,” she shared, proudly.

“I’ll share the official medical jargon in the Boobie Broadcast for those curious on the size of before and after. But this is amazing news and I am so relieved,” Thurston added.

“People don’t realize, as it stands now, I’ll be on a treatment plan for life,” she concluded her statement. “There isn’t a cure for breast cancer. But as long as funding for medical research continues, especially for metavivors, then we have a chance at continuing a long healthy life.”

Thurston’s video comes five days after she shared a tearful video on the last day of her vacation with her husband.

In the video, the 34-year-old said being diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer has forced her to “shift” how she thinks. “My oncologist never told me how much time I have left, and I've never asked.”

“Stage 4 is a very scary mentality at times, because it is forever,” Thurston explained, adding that she continues to do her best to seek out all of the blessings in her life.

“But there's a small part of me that like feels like a dog before it dies, gets this, like, this big boost, you know,” Thurston shared as she grew emotional. “I’m not trying to even make this like a sad video. I'm just being honest that cancer is very much like a trained lifestyle at this point.”

Nonetheless, Thurston said she is getting to find the good in life each and every day.
