“And just celebrate with the people that have been a part of this whole thing for my entire career.”
While discussing divorce with her guest, actress Olivia Munn, daytime talkshow host and singer Kelly Clarkson shared a comical story about her son, Remington.
During an episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” being children of divorce, Munn and Clarkson talked about how divorce affects kids and how much kids are able to retain.
“I think the thing that we as parents forget is how much we are aware of as little kids and how much we remember,” Munn shared with Clarkson, who agreed, but admitted that all kids are different.
When Clarkson’s kids, Remington and River, were 3 and 5 respectively, she and her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, separated in 2020.
Their contentious divorce was finalized two years later, in March 2022.
“It's funny too, because they're different,” Clarkson explained, saying that while her oldest, River, does remember some things about the divorce, Remington does not.
“One of them was like, ‘do you know my dad?’” Clarkson said with a laugh.

“I was like, ‘Well, we've run into each other at least twice,’” Clarkson told her son, admitting the joke went over his head.
Clarkson has been somewhat open about how her kids reacted to their parents divorce.

In 2024, while a guest on KOST 103.5, Clarkson said that “both my kids are not [into it, and] they constantly bring it up,” she said of the idea of her dating other people.
“‘Please, we don’t want you to be with anybody else.' They’re young, so it’s hard to picture their mom with someone else other than their dad," she said at the time.
And although she said at the time that she’s “not looking” for love at the moment, she explained to her kids that she “needs loving too.”
“I think the hope of that is really beautiful and magical, and imagination station is a wonderful thing," she said.
