You might be surprised to learn that many of your favorite Christmas movie stars aren’t in the industry anymore.
Macaulay Culkin revealed that his young children are frequent viewers of Home Alone, yet they have no idea that he’s actually Kevin McCallister.
The actor, who starred as Kevin in the 1990 original and its 1992 sequel, shared during a recent stop on his A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin tour that his two sons he shares with actress Brenda Song, Dakota, 4, and Carson, 3, watch the holiday classic “often” but haven’t made the connection to their dad.
“They have no idea that I’m Kevin,” Culkin said at a recent event, according to People. "They’re only three and four years old,” continued the actor, also saying that he wants “to keep up that illusion as long as possible.”
The 45-year-old actor then recalled a bedtime moment with Dakota when his son began asking about his siblings. Showing him an old family photo, Culkin said his son “immediately looks at me and goes, ‘That kid looks like Kevin.’”
Quickly, Culkin steered the conversation elsewhere to preserve the magic a little longer.
It turns out Dakota also thinks he himself is Kevin and even claims credit for some of his dad’s on-screen stunts. “’Do you remember when you kicked the burglars out?’ And he’s like, ‘Yep.’ ‘You slid down the stairs?’ ‘I sure do,’” Culkin laughed. “I was like, ‘You liar! That was me!’”
Culkin said he enjoys sharing the film with his boys, even recreating some of Kevin’s iconic moves together. “Yeah, I really love watching that movie with my kids,” he continued.
Outside of reflecting on the legacy of the films during his tour, Culkin recently reprised the beloved role in a commercial for Home Instead.
Culkin and his partner, Song, have been together since 2017 while filming Seth Green's comedy-drama "Changeland" in Thailand.
Culkin and Song welcomed Dakota in April 2020 and later welcomed Carson in December 2022. The pair got engaged in January of 2022.
During a joint interview with Culkin published in January 2025, Song told Cosmopolitan that although she and Culkin have "talked about eloping," Song says she wouldn't dare skip a wedding for fear of opinions from her mom.
"I was like, ‘If we eloped, my mom would have a heart attack that she wasn’t going to be there.”’
