Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon’s daughter, Monroe Cannon, issued a rare statement about her blended family, insisting that she only has “one brother” despite her father having a total of 12 children.
Monroe, 14, took to her Instagram Stories on November 13 to explain her thoughts about her unconventional blended family.
"Clearing something up guys," she began in the text post. "I only have ONE brother who is @moroccan.cannon.I do have other half siblings from my dad but they are all many many years younger than me!"
Carey, 56, and Nick, 45, got married in 2008 before they welcomed twins Monroe and Moroccan in 2011.
After the former couple split in 2014 and finalized their divorce in 2016, Nick went on to welcome ten more children. He shares sons Golden Sagon and Rise Messiah Cannon and daughter Powerful Queen with Brittany Bell, twins Zion Mixolydian and Zillion Heir and daughter Beautiful Zeppelin with Abby De La Rosa, son Legendary Love with Bre Tiesi and daughter Onyx Ice Cole with LaNisha Cole.
Additionally, Nick welcomed two children with Alyssa Scott. Their first child, son Zen, died when he was just 5 months old in December 2021 after he was diagnosed with brain cancer. The pair also share daughter Halo Marie Cannon, who was born in December 2022.
Nick has been open about his love of fatherhood, and he previously insisted that most of his children were intentional. “I’m like a seahorse out here with how I’m procreating,” he said during his radio show in July 2021, according to Billboard. “I’m having these kids on purpose. It ain’t no accident!”
Nearly one year later, Nick candidly discussed his unconventional family set up while speaking to Men’s Health in June 2022.
“It’s not about what society deems is right,” he said at the time. “It’s like, what makes it right for you? What brings your happiness? What allows you to have joy and how you define family? We all define family in so many different ways.”
The Masked Singer host continued, “People even often ask, ‘Are you gonna have more? You gonna stop?’ I’m like, those are questions that I don’t really even sit around and think about. I’m just walking in my purpose and trying to be the best father and best provider I could possibly be.”
Nick doesn’t seem to be done having kids, and he said during a March episode of his “We Playin’ Spades” podcast that he had no plans to get a vasectomy because he isn’t “done” having kids.
Cohost Courtney Bee then asked Nick if he wanted to have more children with any of the women he already has kids with or if he was looking to find someone new. “I don’t know! That’s the thing,” he admitted. “I leave it to the Lord.”
