“Are you and Ms. Rachel, one in the same?”
Matt Leinart is a former Heisman-winning college quarterback who turned pro before retiring in 2013.
And although he is largely regarded as one of the best college football quarterbacks in history, Alexa didn’t have great things to say about his professional football career.
Leinart, 42, posted a video to Instagram on Monday, August 19 of his son asked Amazon’s virtual assistant “who is Matt Leinart.” While Alexa’s answer began innocently enough, it quickly humbled Leinart towards the end.
Leinart seemed stunned when his son asked Alexa the question at first, but ultimately listened to its answer.
“From RootSports.com, Matt Leinart was a Heisman Trophy winning quarterback at USC and a the top 10 NFL Draft pick. But his pro career didn't amount to much,” Alexa said bluntly, leaving Leinart stunned.
“Really?” Leinart said throwing his hands in the air, as his wife, actress Josie Loren continued recording, sharing some commentary of her own. “Yikes. Oh well,” Loren added.
“Wow,” Leinart added. “Alexa’s rough. Damn.”
Leinart began his college football career in 2001 as a quarterback for the University of Southern California under the guidance of legendary coach Pete Carroll.
He was eventually named USC’s starting quarterback leading the Trojans to two consecutive national championships in 2003 and 2004. In 2004, Leinart won the coveted Heisman Trophy.
Widely considered one of the most prestigious individual awards in sports, the Heisman is given to the best player in Division I football that year.
However, after winning the Heisman and being drafted into the NFL by the Arizona Cardinals in the first round in 2006, Leinart’s professional career didn’t go as planned.
Leinart spent four season with the Cardinals, playing backup to Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner before he was traded to the Houston Texans in 2011 and finishing his career in the NFL with the Oakland Raiders in 2012.
After retiring as a player, Leinart transitioned into sports media where he found success as a football analyst.
Fans in the comments section joked that Alexa was either a Notre Dame fan or a UCLA fan.
“His wife snorting with a chuckle,” one fan added. “Even your loved ones turn on ya!”
